Do you have a regular meditation practice? I have to admit, mine is pretty sporadic. I notice a difference when I meditate regularly, but sometimes the idea of sitting still for any amount of time is insurmountable. It’s something that I know I need to dedicate time to regularly and I really enjoyed this article on “A Low-Stakes Way to Think About Meditation.”
“So what if, instead of trying to empty your mind of thoughts, you merely try to find the space between your thoughts? To find those fleeting moments where you go from a thought about what you’re going to eat for lunch, to “oh yeah, I’m here meditating, focusing on the breath,” onto another thought about what you’re going to eat for dinner. Try to stretch out those spaces of awareness, and see what’s there. See if you can follow just one breath cycle, and then maybe one more. Pay close attention to the precious seconds when you’re aware only of the experience of sitting in that room. Then go ahead and shamelessly have another thought, because you know you’re going to.”
LISTEN
Yep, I listened to the much-discussed album from Olivia Rodrigo, Sour. It’s the perfect blend of relatability that will transport you right back to high school (if you’re no longer there) or be the perfect soundtrack to an angsty summer. It’s worth the listen!
WATCH
Yay, summer! If you’re looking for an easy and elegant summer DIY, consider this Simple Slip Dress from The Essentials Club. I made the Gathered Tier Dress twice last year and it was also easy, fun, and super cute. Plus, there is something super rewarding about making your own clothes and then wearing them out and about. I bought some fabric last week and as soon as I buy an iron, I’m going to begin on the slip dress!
SMELL
Have you made the switch from dryer sheets to wool dryer balls? If so, have you tried scenting them? I like that using dryer balls gives you the option to scent your laundry exactly the way you want for each batch of laundry. Have a fabric essential oil or personal scent? A few drops of oil or spritzes will do the trick!
TASTE
Searching for an easy lunch or dinner idea? This past week I made a sushi-inspired shrimp bowl with smashed avocado! Dice cooked shrimp and then mix in kewpie mayo and sriracha to taste (I add some furikake, too), then serve it over cooked rice (sushi is best, but Jasmine rice can work well) that’s been mixed with a rice wine vinegar, salt, and sugar mixture. I smashed some avocado, then added a bit more mayo, citrusy garlic powder, and boom! Filling, lean protein, healthy fats, and incredibly easy to whip together. Serve with a side salad for even more greens.
in joy,
