I had my first anxiety attack last year. Prior to 2020, I had never experienced anxiety. Stress? Certainly. Depression? Off and on. Burnout. Absolutely. Anxiety, however, was new. I had my second anxiety attack several months after that, even after finally getting a therapist. In the year that’s followed, I haven’t had any more anxiety attacks, but I have battled intense, frustrating, and overwhelming anxiety. It felt like an alien had taken up residence in my body and the newness and strangeness of being so overwhelmed and unable to “solve” it only added to my anxiety.
