READ

  • In good eco news this week:

    • The EU is going to require smartphone manufacturers to universalize their power cord, reducing unnecessary electronic waste. From AP News, “But the EU also wants to cut down on the 11,000 metric tons of electronic waste thrown out every year by Europeans.” Read the full article here.

    • The EPA passed an environmental law to reduce and phase out “climate-damaging hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)”. HFCs contribute to the acceleration of climate change, and this is good indication for other stronger environmental legislation aimed at addressing climate change. Read more on the EPA’s website.

WATCH

  • The Great British Baking Show is finally back. Thank you, Jesus! I wish they would release the entire season at once, but the premiere baking show is back with weekly episodes on Netflix. As always, the first episode of the recent season has likable bakers and delicious looking bakes. Yum.

  • The Wonder Years has been rebooted with a Black family in Alabama in the 1960s. I watched the first episode on Hulu, but it airs on ABC at 8:30 pm on Wednesdays. So far, I really enjoyed it! I haven’t seen the original show, but I appreciated how the first episode of the 2021 reboot balanced humor and seriousness. Narrated by Don Cheadle, it’s a must watch watch this fall.

LISTEN

  • A couple of years ago, I discovered Whitney Simmons’ workout videos on YouTube and I also began following her over on Instagram. She has perfect at-home workouts and they’ve been truly a Godsend during the pandemic. She was recently interviewed for Fleurish’s podcast on Spotifiy and I haven’t listened yet, but its at the top of my list for next week. If you want to listen as well, then search for “Whitney Simmons: “It’s a Good Day to Be Alive!” Opening Up About Something She Never Has Before!” on Spotify.

TASTE

  • I’m trying to dial back my sugar and also be better about meal planning as we switch seasons. Two recipes that I’m excited to bake up this week are the Blueberry Baked Oatmeal from Cookie + Kate and the 5 Min Flourless Blender Berry Muffins from Paleo Gluten Free Eats. I’ve made the berry muffins before as a loaf and they’re so good! You don’t miss the cane sugar and I’ve subbed in coconut sugar, date honey, and honey at various times. Don’t be afraid to experiment a little bit and enjoy!
