Sunday Brunch Round-up | Jul 5 - 11th

This week’s feast for your senses.

READ

  • Have you been a fan of Everlane because of their commitment to transparent and ethical fashion? Then you have to read this open letter from former employees: EVERLANE’S CONVENIENT TRANSPARENCY

    • “We, the former Black, POC, and white allied employees, have witnessed and experienced anti-Black behavior, prejudice in advancement of Black and POC employees, bullying, racial and heteronormative supremacy, manipulation and the intimidation of employees who have attempted to address these issues. Those who dare speak up about terrible management and frustrations with addressing issues like diversity and representation were subdued with excuses, questioned on their loyalty, and fell victim to retaliation. Look no further than the recent union efforts and Everlane taking up legal counsel with someone known for “union avoidance.” Let it be known that we are a separate group of former employees gathered unbeknownst to, but in solidarity with, the Everlane Union.”

  • Need some good environmental news? AFAR magazine recently covered The Great American Outdoors Act and how it can help support our national parks. Read more about it here: National Parks to Receive Billions in Funding Thanks to Landmark Bill.

    • “One of the most monumental and far-reaching conservation bills in half a century is well on its way to becoming a law. If the bill passes—and an overwhelming show of bipartisan support suggests it will—it will provide billions of dollars in funds to national parks and public lands both for immediate relief of maintenance projects and for ongoing conservation and preservation work.”

WATCH

  • Always trying to stay on top of your skincare game? Then you have to be watching The Gothamista’s Youtube videos. Renee recently covered her Black-Owned Skincare Faves! You, too, can get a summer glow even if the only place you’re going is for a walk around the block.

LISTEN

SMELL

  • When was the last time you bought yourself some flowers? Or picked them from your garden (emphasis on the ‘your’, please do not pick other people’s flowers!)? I’d invite you to get yourself a bouquet this weekend or even a few fragrant stems. I’m in Virginia currently and the honeysuckle, magnolias, and gardenias are scenting the air richly. It’s one of my favorite times of the year.

TASTE

  • As much as I wish I could share a bite of my cheesy chicken taquitos I made this week with you, I can’t! Instead, I offer you a Baked Creamy Cheesy Chicken Flautas recipe for how to make your own. I haven’t followed a recipe since I first made them years ago, but this is really similar to how I make them. If you read my blog post this week you saw how I worked to cut down on my plastic-waste while making this recipe as part of how I’m tackling plastic-free July and I hope you found some of my tips helpful for you!

in joy,
