This week’s feast for your senses.

A lot of relationships are shifting this year, and friendships have been especially hard to maintain in the midst of a pandemic. The New York Times article, How to Deal With a Friendship ‘Quiet Season’, offers tips to reconnect or how to come to terms with knowing some friendships may not make it into 2021.
“Be proactive about establishing contact with friends you haven’t spoken to in a while. “You’re not going to randomly bump into your friends at the bar,” Ms. Kwong said. “You’re going to have to make time to meet with friends virtually now.” She said we should schedule our check-ins as if they were a work meeting. Quality is more important than quantity, so if you only have enough energy to reach out to a few cherished friends, that’s fine.”
Are you feeling like your usual destress routine isn’t as effective as it used to be? You’re not the only one. Krissy Brady breaks down the ‘why’s’ and the ‘hows’ in Self-Soothing During the Pandemic.
“But now that we’re confined to our homes, compartmentalizing has been replaced with a steady stream of social isolation and methods of coping that are primarily sedentary (binge-watching, doom-scrolling, day-drinking), the lack of options making it more challenging to regulate our emotions and behaviors in a healthy way. Any pre-pandemic de-stressing rituals that can still be done at home (meditation, gratitude, journaling), while helpful, might no longer be enough to take the edge off, largely because of having to juggle your entire lifestyle under a single roof."

I’m trying to keep up with social media’s shifting trends, y’all! Recently, I’ve been making reels over on Instagram. I’ve highlighted how decluttering your email inbox, junk, and spam folders can reduce your carbon footprint.
LISTEN
I’m sure you’re no stranger to the incredible teachings of Brené Brown. This week I found myself listening to her Netflix special the Call to Courage for the second time. It was an incredible reminder of the power of vulnerability. Several days later, my therapist recommended I listen to her Red Table Talk, Life Changing Lessons with Brené Brown. I ended up listening to it twice in one day because there was so much wisdom she shared that I wanted to take notes the second time. I cannot recommend enough that you give it a listen while you’re showering and getting ready for the week. It’s short but powerful.
“If you can’t receive love with an open heart, you’re never really giving it with an open heart.”
TASTE
Did you watch the short Netflix series, Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat? If you did, you may recall the ‘salt’ episode where Samin visits Japan and breaks down how miso is made and its many uses in food, even in things like pasta sauces or salad dressings. Ever since that episode, I’ve wanted to buy some miso paste. Now that the temperatures are dipping in the Northeast, I picked up some miso paste earlier today and intend to make a quick miso soup broth to have for breakfast several days a week. The instructions are super easy and printed on most packages, but here’s another 15-Minute Miso Soup with Greens and Tofu recipe for you to try!
