This week’s feast for your senses.

France has a plan to dissuade manufacturers from creating items with planned obsolescence by using a repairability scoring system. They plan to begin by targeting electronics and the country intends to expand to other products in the coming years. Read the full article here: Why France’s new ‘repairability index’ is a big deal.
“The repairability index represents part of France’s effort to combat planned obsolescence, the intentional creation of products with a finite lifespan that need to be replaced frequently, and transition to a more circular economy where waste is minimized. But it also has global implications. Repair advocates say that the index will serve as a litmus test for other nations weighing similar regulations, help consumers make better choices, and hopefully incentivize companies to manufacture more repairable devices.”
LISTEN
As I’m settling into my new apartment I’ve been working through setting up and cleaning my new space. I’m still waiting for my internet to be connected and to set up my tv, so Spotify has been holding me down and keeping me company while I work through my to-do lists. Channeling my parents, I decided to listen to a Cool Jazz playlist and it’s been perfect for mellow companionship.
WATCH
I haven’t watched this yet, but I plan to sometime this week - PBS’s special on the Black Church. “The Black Church: This is our Story, This is our Song,” was recommended to me by my mom and I also came across it in another end-of-week wrap-up that I’m subscribed to. It’s a four special detailing the history of the Black church over the last 400 years.
“The documentary reveals how Black people have worshipped and, through their spiritual journeys, improvised ways to bring their faith traditions from Africa to the New World, while translating them into a form of Christianity that was not only truly their own, but a redemptive force for a nation whose original sin was found in their ancestors’ enslavement across the Middle Passage.”
TASTE
A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I was listening to a podcast about pimento cheese! I love pimento cheese and it’s tricky to find a good one in the grocery store, but since I had it on my mind I grabbed some from Trader Joe’s during my recent grocery store trip. I do not regret it! This week I had some with crackers, of course, but I also slathered some on my bacon and egg sandwich and it was chef’s kiss perfect.
in joy,
