Planning to vote by mail this fall? Here’s How to Register to Vote or Request a Mail-In Ballot in Under 2 Minutes
“As for requesting a mail-in ballot, the U.S. Postal Service has been experiencing delays throughout the pandemic and is recommending voters allow for a generous 14 days round trip (meaning it might take seven days to get to you and another seven to get back to your local elections office). That means election day for anyone voting by mail is actually Tuesday, October 20, just to be safe. So for anyone currently waiting out the pandemic someplace other than their usual residence, or for college students who will be on campus come November, go ahead and carve out those 120 seconds ASAP to get the ball rolling.”
This pandemic has highlighted many ways in which our culture is unhealthy. One that comes most to mind? The pressure of productivity at the expense of our health and overall quality of life. The Atlantic published a great article on the dangers of choosing to chase and prioritize success over happiness: ‘Success Addicts’ Choose Being Special Over Being Happy
“If you measure yourself only by the worldly rewards of money, power, and prestige, you’ll spend your life running on the hedonic treadmill and comparing yourself to others. I suggested better metrics in the inaugural “How to Build a Life” column, among them faith, family, and friendship. I also included work—but not work for the sake of outward achievement. Rather, it should be work that serves others and gives you a sense of personal meaning.”

I loved listening to the founder of Ethel Club, a digital membership club for people of color, about her inspiration and hurdles as she’s built an enormous following. She turned such a familiar feeling for people of color — of distinct not belonging in public spaces— and created a beautiful space. Give it a listen: Going Through It S2:E5 Naj Austin
TASTE
Summer is winding down, but I’m determined to enjoy (as much as I can) the last few dregs. Few things make me think of summer more than lobster rolls. Just as COVID-19 was hitting I was coming back from a wonderful respite in Rhode Island with a good friend where we enjoyed some delicious ones. This week I was looking for ways to spice up meal planning and came across a simple recipe for shrimp rolls. Bags of frozen shrimp are fairly affordable so I’m looking forward to making these in the coming week: Shrimp Rolls.
