This week’s feast for your senses.

READ

  • The great John Lewis passed away recently and I’ve finally read his incredible piece in the NY Times. It’s poignant, searing, and inspirational all at once. A reminder of the weight of a life given to the fight for civil rights and a reminder of how far we still need to go. If you haven’t read it yet, I invite you to read Together, You Can Redeem the Soul of Our Nation.

    • “Though I was surrounded by two loving parents, plenty of brothers, sisters and cousins, their love could not protect me from the unholy oppression waiting just outside that family circle. Unchecked, unrestrained violence and government-sanctioned terror had the power to turn a simple stroll to the store for some Skittles or an innocent morning jog down a lonesome country road into a nightmare. If we are to survive as one unified nation, we must discover what so readily takes root in our hearts that could rob Mother Emanuel Church in South Carolina of her brightest and best, shoot unwitting concertgoers in Las Vegas and choke to death the hopes and dreams of a gifted violinist like Elijah McClain.”

  • COVID-19 continues to impact First Nations’ peoples around the globe at an exponential rate. Protect the Peoples Emergency Partnership Fund has ways for you to help support indigenous communities during this pandemic. Check out their website for ways to give here.

  • Here’s a concise article sharing how you can support Lebanon after the explosion that rocked Beirut this week. What would be catastrophic and heartbreaking ordinarily is even more so during this pandemic. If you’re able to help, I encourage you to read: How to help Beirut explosion victims: 4 things you can do for Lebanon right now.

WATCH

  • I’ve made it no secret that I’m a huge Jason Momoa fan. Yes, he’s a tall, bohemian, artsy, outdoorsy guy who cares about the planet (which hits all of the ‘yes’ checkboxes for me), but it was honestly a video I watched where he talked about what it meant to him to be a husband and a father that really tipped me into becoming a fan. The love and appreciation he’s shared publicly for his wife are heartwarming and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say we could all do with a dose of ‘feel-good’ these days (and a husband who is this creative…but let me not become distracted. ahem). If you are in need of that dose and/or love old Mustangs and/or love Lisa Bonet then you have to watch: MY WIFE'S FIRST MUSTANG.

LISTEN

  • It seems that every week I’m trying yet another thing to help me get some consistent, restful sleep! I know I’m not the only one, so I wanted to share a meditation I listened to this week that helped me get some of the deepest sleep I’ve had in a while. Although it is a video, I turned off all the lights in my room, dimmed my computer, and closed by eyes while I listened. If you’re interested, I cannot recommend this Guided Meditation Full Moon August 2020 ✨enough.

TASTE

  • This week I made some easy, fresh pesto with basil from the garden to compliment the arugula Parmigiano Reggiano ravioli I bought from Trader Joe’s. It was delicious and it always impresses me how easily pesto comes together! I eyeballed everything, but if you’re looking for a pine nut-free recipe, click through to: Basil pesto sauce recipe - Homemade, Without Nuts.

in joy,
